BALTIMORE PROTEST - A 25 - YEAR-OLD BLACK MAN IS DEAD - $20 MILLION IN PROPERTY DAMAGES - 100 POLICE OFFICERS INJURED

The 2015 Baltimore protests took place in April and May. The demonstrations—which were sparked by the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody—began on April 18 and lasted until May 4, 2015. Police Injuries: At least 113 officers were injured during the clashes.Civilian Injuries: At least two people were shot and one person was left in critical condition from a fire. April 12, 2015: Baltimore police officers arrested Gray for possessing what they believed was an illegal switchblade.The Injury: Officers loaded Gray into a transport van but failed to secure him with a seatbelt. Witnesses reported he could not walk by the time he was loaded. During the ride, he suffered catastrophic spinal injuries.The Catalyst: Gray fell into a coma and died on April 19, 2015. His death triggered immediate, widespread public outrage over police brutality, systemic racism, and a lack of accountability.
